Initial contributions by Drs N. Stuart Harris and Peter Hackett lead to the creation of this website in 2003 and to the founding of the International High Altitude Research Collaborators (thus our website of www.iharc.org).
A presentation by Dr. Harris of the work to that date was enthusiastically received by ISMM members at the Xining ISMM World Congress in 2004. In light of this support and to make institutional the truly global reach of this project, it was decided that formal ISMM ownership of the Registry would be in the best interests of the ISMM and the Registry. Following a presentation to the ISMM Executive Committee at the 2005 Hypoxia Symposia in Lake Louise, this Registry was adopted by and received formal financial support from the ISMM.
A five member Steering Committee of ISMM members from around the world was established to lead this work.
This Steering Committee has worked to create the Registry and to establish a reliable means of quantifying the likelihood of a HAPE diagnosis, known as the HAPE Registry Score.
The Registry’s secured server and data repository are on the campus of Harvard Medical School/ Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
After years of work, we look forward to beginning formal enrollment in the Registry by late 2006.
